COVID-19 ISEB Update
June 2020 13+ Common Entrance examinations (for senior schools)

Further to previous messages we would like to clarify arrangements for 13+ Common Entrance this summer. ISEB's position remains that we seek to ensure that where schools wish their pupils to take CE, they may do so. If necessary, this may entail pupils taking papers at home under supervision with parents signing a declaration about examination conditions.

ISEB is aware that senior schools will be communicating closely with prep schools. The information we have provided for prep schools can be found via our COVID-19 Update web page.

Senior Schools will have considered whether they wish, for this year, to ask their applicants to take Common Entrance and, if so, whether they will ask prep schools to mark papers internally. Arrangements about marking are as usual for agreement between senior and prep schools. Senior schools should be aware that, where examinations have been taken at home, prep schools will not receive scripts to mark until after 5 June. This is likely to cause a slight delay to the communication of results. Prep school Heads have been advised to include information about past performance in CE papers in their Heads’ reports to senior schools.

Senior schools should be aware that any prep schools wishing to cancel registrations were asked to inform the ISEB office of any cancellations by Tuesday 21 April. ISEB has also asked prep schools to notify senior schools of these cancellations.

Please note that papers and mark schemes have been sent to senior schools in the usual way.
